Don Meredith (seen here with fly fishing fiend Curt Gowdy) of Dallas Cowboy and sports broadcasting fame passed away yesterday in New Mexico. We all knew Gowdy fly fished, but so did Don Meredith – Jack Dennis says he taught him.
He’s Dead Jim
Bob Bogle, lead guitarist of the Ventures, died Sunday in Vancouver, Washington at age 75. The Ventures were probably the greatest instrumental band of all time. Bob and Don Wilson formed the Ventures after meeting on a construction site in Tacoma and playing together for a year or so. Here’s a few of their great […]
Yesterday in Missoula by she who must be obeyed.
As distracting and distasteful as it may seem on some days – there are indeed bills to pay, shelter and food to purchase, vehicles to fuel, and clothes to buy – though you probably could wear waders around town here in Bozeman year-round and nobody would fire you a second look. Several ‘real world’ projects […]
The Blackfoot is still way up and very muddy. Don’t even think about trying to fish it for at least another few weeks. Instead, head for the tailwaters or a local lake or pond. It is kind of nice to mix your fishing up a bit every now and then.
The Gallatin is still completely blown out. Flows are almost 4,000 cfs this morning at Gallatin Gateway and will be rising throughout the day. The river near Logan is expected to flood either later today or in the next few days. Even the upper river above Taylor Fork is pretty dirty. It will be a […]
The Blackfoot is completely blown out. I drove down the other day with the intent to get a few pictures, but the view made me so sad I couldn’t bring myself to snap a shot. Flows are on their way back up this week with some warmer weather and possibly rain on its way. It […]
For the time being, the Rock is gone. Flows are at almost record levels and are still going up. Needless to say, visibility is shot to hell. Chocolate milk anyone? The Salmonflies will be showing up as soon as the water clears. A great thing about the Rock is the fact that it always clears […]
In keeping with our Star Trek theme today – the Gallatin mid-morning from the Williams Bridge, upstream and downstream views. The quick assessment – It’s Dead, Jim.
I hate to say this because I love fishing the Blackfoot, but don’t even bother giving her a try for a while. Flows really jumped yesterday and will continue to rise dramatically today. The forecast is calling for temps in the 80s today, and 60s and 70s all week which is going to push a lot […]
As some of you have no doubt noticed, most of us here at Chi Wulff are Star Trek fans. I recently found this great tribute video to one of the most oft repeated phrases in Star Trek: He’s Dead, Jim. I couldn’t resist.
I have some bad news my friends. Rock Creek is blown out. She is currently flowing at almost 2,000 CFS, and is full of mud. The hot weather this past week really brought down a lot of melt. Rock Creek is almost always the first river in the area to blow out and among the […]
