Attaboy Sunday: Montana Headwaters Legacy Act Introduced
We’ve written about the concept of protecting many of Montana’s glorious rivers, and this past week Tester finally introduced the Montana Headwaters Legacy Act in the Senate. Here’s an example of local Montana coverage via the Helena IR, and much more detail on the Montanans for Healthy Rivers site.
Git ‘er done.
Last Day for Kid’s Tarpon Coloring Contest
Midnight tonight is the deadline to submit entries for the coloring contest sponsored by Western Mountain Drifters, Waterworks Lamson, and BTT. Details and downloads here.
Today over on the Older Bolder Life I’ve posted a nifty recipe for this Grilled Diablo Chicken Margherita, inspired in part by our fly fishing chef compadre Libby in Austin. It’s even better with this House Pesto recipe I posted earlier in the week, though a good store-bought pesto will play here very well.
Cheers.
The good folks at TFO have posted a nice piece about Alaskan Arctic Grayling with AK native Tessa Shetter; details at the link, image via the linked article.
A close look at this classic salmon pool on the Arndilly beat on the fabulous River Spey in Scotland. A lovely 12lb summer salmon is landed from the pool and puts up a hard fight before being netted by Arndilly Ghillie Keith McLaren. As an avid salmon fisher the opportunity to fish this prime Spey beat does not come along often, so to get a come of days here was a dream come true and the 12lber from the Cobble Pot was the icing on the cake!
Via the Billings Gazette, it appears the bucket brigade has struck again with an illegal introduction of smallies into the Shields River in Montana, a favored watershed for re-introduced native Yellowstone Cutties. Details here in the article, and image above via the linked post.
From the good folks at MGTU in Bozeman…
The ZOOM meeting held on the 20th by Montana FWP to consider the proposed administrative rules and environmental assessment regarding the recreation management on the Madison River (our post about it here) was recorded and is available for viewing in its entirety (all 2 hours and 37 minutes worth!) here.
The commission is debating the merits of the proposal, and public comment is being accepted through Friday the 30th – comment here; you can peruse all pertinent documents (the current River Rule Proposal MAR 12-531, the related EA, and the two pertinent petitions from FOAM and the George Grant TU) at the link.
Here’s an example of local media coverage from the Bozeman Daily Chronicle post the meeting on the 20th.
