Last week Yellowstone National Park FINALLY announced hoot owl restrictions for all river watersheds in the Park, ending angling on all rivers by 2 PM each day.
Water temps have been blisteringly hot in many of the Park’s waters; take for example the Upper Firehole gauge temps (not the typically much warmer lower Firehole gauge) from the past week below…
You can find temps and flows for the Park and all of Wyoming in real time here…
Count us among those who posit that the science supports closure of most Park (and for that matter much of the Northern Rockies’) rivers to fishing now given current temps and flows; bet we’ll see closures before this summer has run its course…
Here’s something you don’t read about very often – tips on chasing pink salmon in Puget Sound from Blake and team at the Gig Harbor Fly Shop…
Today over on the Older Bolder Life I’ve posted a nifty recipe for The Best Damn Chicken Salad; it’s a re-worked oldie from here on ChiWulff posted almost a decade ago, and dammit, it’s still the best damned chicken salad we’ve ever found anywhere.
We used to eat this one on the river (or hiking trail, or drive) on kaiser rolls with a hefty sprinkle of blue cheese crumbles thrown in, along with several generous shakes of Cholula. I have no idea what the hell makes that combination work so well, but it just does.
You won’t regret putting this one together this weekend.
Cheers.
Red tide events in Florida have been impressively bad this year; BTT’s Aaron Adams issued a timely warning back in 2018…
A hearty Wednesday attaboy to BUFF for their backing Anglers Driving Change – click through to see the two features posted so far…
Attaboy, and thanks Casey for sharing.
The GoFundMe listing has the brief story; some asshole (or assholes) thought they’d make some sort of statement last Wednesday the 14th and slashed tires on over 30 vehicles, many belonging to guides working the river.
For those who haven’t seen access parking lots on big Western rivers very often, guide rigs are pretty damned easy to spot – typically 4×4 trucks or SUVs with a trailer attached. One can only imagine that on a busy week day during peak summer, somebody has to have seen something out of the ordinary that day…
There’s a GoFundMe page set up here, and they’ll need far more than $3K to really help (bought tires lately?). The screen shot was taken about 0800 CDT this morning…
Git ‘er done.
