Yellowstone Hoot Owl Restrictions: About Damn Time

Last week Yellowstone National Park FINALLY announced hoot owl restrictions for all river watersheds in the Park, ending angling on all rivers by 2 PM each day.

Water temps have been blisteringly hot in many of the Park’s waters; take for example the Upper Firehole gauge temps (not the typically much warmer lower Firehole gauge) from the past week below…

Count us among those who posit that the science supports closure of most Park (and for that matter much of the Northern Rockies’) rivers to fishing now given current temps and flows; bet we’ll see closures before this summer has run its course…
