Today over on the Older Bolder Life I’ve posted this nifty recipe for a Texas Style (Primal) Picadillo, damned similar to the dish that friend’s mothers and grandmothers would fix for us growing up in the Texas Panhandle back in the day.
As we move into fall this is a great recipe to fold into your rotation and makes a powerfully tasty taco that’s also a bit different from what most of us think about when talking home Taco Tuesday dinners.
Enjoy.

In the circles in which I tend to run, folks appear to either love – or despise – Tom Rosenbauer for reasons that never seem altogether clear to me. (I’m guessing those falling on the negative side of the spectrum associate TR with their own outdated view of Orvis back from the tweed English driving cap days …). As with most people who have worked decades in the fly fishing industry, TR does have an interesting story and bundle of adventures that he’s accumulated along the way.
Here’s a very personal bio of TR recently posted by Orvis, written by one of their longest tenured copywriters – Paul Fersen, who actually hired Jess to work as a copywriter there a few years back. She thought Paul was one of the finest men working in the Orvis system back in the day…

Friend of ChiWulff Blake Merwin of the Gig Harbor Fly Shop is selling his NRS Clearwater Drifter. Here’s what he recently had to say about the boat in an email –
I’m selling our inflatable drift boat. It’s an NRS Clearwater Drifter. Retail $6k+. Selling for $4800. Excellent condition. 17’ long. Self-bailing.
Includes cataract oars w/ magnum blades, spare oar, repair kit, anchor rope, 30lb anchor, nrs “shelf” attachment and rod holders, and pump.
Would prefer to keep the trailer but will sell if needed. Trailer not included in price.
Reach out to Blake here if you’re interested or need more details.

Here on the first official day of astrological fall it’s time to look ahead at what the late fall and winter season forecasts hold (at this relatively early date) for the snowpack building season soon to start in earnest in the northern Rockies.
As we’ve been noting now for years (if not a decade and change), the forecast weather pattern for the northern Rockies appears to be overwhelmingly strongly correlated to the ENSO cycle (more below). Current data appears to suggest a La Nina pattern is setting up and will remain strongly in place until mid to late spring 21, which historically has meant colder and wetter weather is on tap for the northern Rockies, a nifty combination when the goal is laying in a bountiful snowpack to support stream flows in 2021.

This summer we spent 8 days in the Bob Marshall Wilderness working for Bob Marshall Wilderness Cheff Outfitters. We traveled over 60 miles on horse, chopped a ton of wood, caught hundreds of cutthroat trout, and had an incredible time disconnecting in one of the most remote places on the planet. This video was filmed and produced by Double Haul Media.

Last month Zach Matthews writing for Orvis posted a concise, helpful post on fixing five of the most common casting flaws – read it here.
