Today over on the Older Bolder Life I’ve posted this nifty recipe for what we’ve come to call our Back Pocket Balsamic Vinaigrette, an incredibly easy and undeniably tasty dressing that can play a number of rolls in your kitchen and on the table.

The “back pocket” reference is a hat tip to our friend and mentor Ed, read the full story at the link above.

Cheers.

For those who’ve always wanted to dip their toe into the rod building waters, starting with a blem rod blank can take a bit of sting out of the cost outlays for your first rod or two. I built my first few rods using Sage blew blanks bought out of a giant barrel on the floor of my favorite fly shop shop at the time in SLC years ago; they were a literal fraction of the cost of a perfect new blank and all had cosmetic blemishes so minor they were always hard to see, and the rods performed beautifully.

One of those early rod builds still lies at the bottom of the Snake River in GTNP, bounced out of the raft as a friend using it for the day fumbled in the cooler for another beer; they other two are still in use in the collection today.

EPIC has just announced this morning their annual Blem Sale – look over the options and perhaps it’s time to pull the trigger and build that first / next rod for your arsenal. Btw, not a paid advertisement, just a public service announcement.

Montana FWP released proposed Madison River Rule Proposal 12-531 for public comment, and noted there will be a digitally-based conference 20 October 20 public hearing to review the proposal in detail.

Read their release (partly copied in the image above) here, and note on the linked page there are links out to full text of the proposed rule, the accompanying EA, and the two petitions upon which the rule was in part based. You can throw your two cents in as well via the comment portal on the FWP page.

Local media have provided a bit of coverage as well; here’s the BDC’s take on the issue.

And by the way, the crickets you hear in the background reflect the silence once again from the Madison River Foundation on the issue…

Jess has just had a nice piece of hers post over on the NRS blog – Tips for On Water Photography. A quick, and useful, read for your Tuesday.

One of the most significant Biscayne Bay fish kill events in recent history occurred during August in Biscayne Bay; here’s a fascinating consensus statement posted by BTT a few weeks back detailing (concisely) the how and why, and the conceptually simple remedies.
