This is a big week coming up for Montana’s beloved Madison River, and for those who frequent her hallowed waters for work and play.
On the 20th (Tuesday upcoming) Montana FWP will hold a digital public hearing via ZOOM for all interested; the meeting will of course focus on the proposed administrative rules and the EA regarding the recreation management plan on the Madison.
All of the pertinent documents (as listed in the above image) are available here, and there’s a mechanism to provide comment directly to FWP from that page for those inclined to do so. There’s a lot at stake regardless of where you might sit on the volatile issues brewing now for several years over best management of the river…
See you digitally on Tuesday.

My friend and compadre Steven Palmer will be doing an IG Live event tonight for Orvis focusing on big flies for big fall fish. Tune in tonight at 8 ET. Attaboy Steven.
Identifying A Dry Fly from RIO Products on Vimeo.
This week’s RIO Fly Fishing Tip shows how to identify a dry fly. There are many times when anglers are told that a “dry fly” is what you need, or even that the rule is “dry fly only”. In those situations it is helpful to know how to identify a dry fly, and in this video Chris Walker runs through the key points that help make a fly float and thus, be a “dry fly”.
RIO’s Fly Fishing Tips series are short, less-than-a-minute videos, each bought to you by a RIO employee or ambassador and showing a single fly fishing tip to help you become a better fly fisher. The series includes freshwater, saltwater and Spey topics, and a mix of casting, fishing and gear tips – some basic, some technical, and everything in between.

A worthwhile heads up for our Bozeman area compadres – Mike Cline is speaking this week at the MGTU meeting about the best methods to fish the Florida flats for the shore bound angler. Always be learning…
