There’s been a very interesting story to watch in Livingston evolving over the past several months (despite the topsy turvy year that was 2020) – the revival and rejuvenation of the legendary Dan Bailey’s fly shop, right there on the main E-W drag through town (Park St), in the same block as the Murray (hotel and bar), and next door to Gil’s.
The Big Sky Journal just dropped a piece online about what’s been happening at DB’s – read it here – it’s a pretty fair representation of what’s been happening of late, but a great recount of the story of Dan Bailey (physicist, teacher/instructor, and fly fishing giant) and his store/retail operation.
We’ve been particularly interested as Jake has working part time with the team there (among his several gigs in Livingston) focusing on tech, marketing, and social media.
Dan Bailey’s is once again a must stop in and look around destination in Livingston.

Today over on the Older Bolder Life I’ve posted a nifty recipe for this Ranchero Tomato Sauce / Salsa No. 1, originally pulled together a few years back for a friend’s Father’s Day celebration feed, though it’s become one of our favorites over time.
Built around deep pepper flavors from dried anchos and guajillo peppers as well as the damned useful canned chipotles in adobo sauce. Besides using for huevos rancheros, this one also plays very well as a sauce for grilled proteins (think pork and chicken in particular) and even as a salsa for chips.
Cheers.

Despite the nonstop environmental doom and gloom you’ve heard and read over the past 4 years, there have have some success stories that have flown under the radar.
The Missoulian recently published a nice, tight recap of the Mike Horse Reclamation Project reclaiming waters in what was once known as the Upper Blackfoot Mining Complex in Montana. This was a large scale, long-term (since 2010) effort, and kudos to The Missoulian for covering its completion and the multiple agencies involved in getting this one done.
Attaboy.

The good folks over at TFO have posted a nice quick read from Brian Kozminski covering some key (and useful) points about winter streamer fishing; read it here.

Guide (fly fishing and hunting) JB in Missoula sent this link a few weeks back; an illustrative account of how quickly grizzly encounters can evolve (further bolstered in the comments).
