Those of us who follow fishy (especially fly fishy) news have not doubt seen impressive images of the coastal fish kill in Texas after a little burst of winter down in these parts (wouldn’t even have delayed the start of school back home in Montana) several weeks ago.
After publishing this initial report back on 23 Feb., Texas Parks and Wildlife updated their survey data of the coastal fish kills in this release on the 10th of March (partially imaged above). While the most recent weather hit was a bad one by Texas standards, the fish kill estimates don’t come close to three big ones in the ’80s (read on down in the 10 March report a few paragraphs).
As with many things you hear bandied about these days, historical context actually does matter.
Finally, kudos to Shane Bonnot, a CCA Texas Advocate, who penned A Time for Action and Hope after the devastation from the fish kills was noted (read the full post at the link).
