With most folks having a bit more time on their hands today, here’s a great way take a little journey to South Africa (and other nifty destinations not on most Yanks’ typical travel lists) via The Mission Ed. 8. We’ve been chatting a bit with Tudor Caradoc-Davies, one of the fine fishers behind The Mission, […]
Culture, Books, Art
Back a couple of weeks ago I posted the first of several giveaways of Waterford Press’ laminated guides to gamefish (their Saltwater Game Fish guide); it shipped this morning to Virginia. Mike Onorato and Waterford Press were most kind to send over this guide – Trout and Salmon of North America – in the bundle […]

In a quiet little town in the foothills of North Carolina’s “mountain country” an icon passed quietly this morning – Billy Graham. A country boy who by accounts grew up dreaming of being a professional baseball player went on to influence millions around the world for good, fishing a bit along the way, as well […]
The South has risen again – Southern Culture on the Fly’s latest edition has dropped. Get it here.
Despite having had a fairly robust exposure to inshore saltwater game fish from regular childhood and young adulthood trips to the Texas Gulf Coast, as my personal interest in chasing saltwater species on the fly grew, my flat out ignorance of in- and nearshore saltwater game fish species became glaringly obvious as time went on. Woke up to an email from Tudor and team in Capetown announcing their drop of Issue 7 of The Mission – what a nice collection of detailed stories, damned impressive imagery, well thought out interviews, and even some food and drink throw in for good measure. Well done… Read it here.
Good stuff from Down Under and the South Pacific. Read it here.

Several very nice fly and photography/art pieces in Scale 27 (read it here) – including three nifty ties from Mario Malarczuk, a very innovative maco-photography piece from Sean Landsman (one above), and some unique artwork from Danish illustrator Klaus Simonsen.
What a refreshing read out of South Africa (read it here free). It’s damned entertaining to read about different fish and places we pedestrians here in the States don’t get to see much, with quality prose and pics to boot. Well played gentlemen.

Read it here. Nifty issue with a great piece by Dr. Aaron Adams of BTT on Hurricane Irma’s impacts in Florida and another featuring photographer Bryan Gregson, a long time friend, sometimes mentor, and sometimes colleague to/of Jess.
Savor it here. Long-time friends of Chi Wulff have heard it many times, but it’s worth repeating – SCOF remains ensconced at the pinnacle of the digital heap of fly fishing mags (and with anything in print for that matter). Pithy, gritty, and brutally honest aren’t descriptors of a lot of fly fishing prose these […]
