Spoken by She Who Must Be Obeyed yesterday morning as we awoke to find a scorpion in the (clean) frying pan sitting on the stove top. Damn. Calendars and business plans reviewed thereafter.
Scanning the BBC site for other news today and ran across this – a new taser system for wildlife. It’s only $2000 and comes with 6 darts. I can see frustrated guides shooting belligerent sports in the ass with one of these. And the reaction from the hardcore wildlife cadre should prove interesting. I have […]
Bear protection for fly fishers. It’s second nature for our friends wandering the rivers of Alaska and Canada. Those banging around the backcountry of Montana, Wyoming, Idaho – particularly in the Greater Yellowstone neighborhood – will eventually at least see and will much more likely have an intimate encounter with Ursus arctos horribilis. Pray you […]
Wolves are still a hot topic in states surrounding the Greater Yellowstone ecosystem. For years in Bozeman we’ve been subject to the fulminations and pontifications about the wolf from our sham of a newspaper – the Bozeman Daily Chronicle. A digression – You have to grant them this – the BDC is unfailingly consistent in […]
We weren’t the only ones out enjoying a bit of sun yesterday – Jake grabbed some snaps of a moose cow and her yearling calf near Specimen Creek in the Park yesterday….
The temperature outside has risen to a balmy -9 by mid-morning today after a brisk -21 last night. It’s been chilly damned cold now for several days; the temps dipped to -26 the night before and couldn’t do any better than -6 for a high yesterday. There’s a fine snow falling this morning and more due […]
Jess has been out having some fun – some nifty coyote pics from the Lamar Valley taken a few days ago. Still down with the flu…tomorrow will be a recovery day. Pheasant hunt in the morning and turkey in the afternoon, Lord willin’ and the creek don’t rise.
Rigging on the Firehole late Wednesday afternoon we noticed a small bull bison had drifted in out of the trees just across the road from the car. Neither party flinched as we rigged and he grazed on down the road – there were white miller caddis coming off and we sure as hell weren’t leaving…..
A gentleman hiking alone yesterday near the confluence of the South Fork of the Madison and the Madison Arm of Hebgen Lake surprised a sow grizzly and cub. Here’s an excerpt of the story from the Bozeman Daily Chronicle (no link as the BDC doesn’t keep their stories active on their website)– A 34-year-old […]
We were driving around enjoying the warm weather this afternoon and saw these fox pups soaking up some sun.
