I’ve arrived in Murmansk after 30+ hours of flying. Strange to think that 30 hours can land you – quite literally – on the other side of the world. I connected with two of the American guides – Patrick Brennan and Barrett Mattison – in Moscow and flew final leg with them. We were picked […]

I have less than twenty-four hours before I fly out for a season of work with the Ponoi River Company on the Kola Peninsula in northern Russia. Two months ago, thinking of summer plans, life above the Arctic Circle was nowhere to be found on the list. Sometimes good things happen quickly. I’ll be working […]

If you missed the first part of Russ’ interview – read it here. You live in Colorado.  How did you end up in the area?  What do you like the most and the least about it? I’m laughing, because “end up” is the best way to describe how I got here. It’s been a long […]

It’s once again my pleasure to present this interview with another one of my favorite photographers in the fly fishing and outdoor world – Russ Schnitzer. Russ Schnitzer is a multi-talented freelance photographer based out of Colorado.  Through his adventure, commercial, and fine art photography Russ strives to bring the viewer into the image and […]

It’s my pleasure to present another interview in CW’s People of Fly Fishing Series with another one of my favorite fly fishing photographers – John Sherman. John Sherman, a native of Visalia, California, caught the fly fishing bug at the tender age of eight. By sixteen he was taking photographs of his days on the […]

For most of us here on Chi Wulff, fly fishing makes the world go round. For me, photography makes the world go round. There’s a natural connection here. Fly fishing multimedia has long been enjoyed by anglers the world across. It is gaining popularity amongst non-anglers as well… who doesn’t dream of a quiet moment […]

It’s my pleasure to offer this interview with Pat Clayton – The FishEyeGuy – as the first in our series of interviews with fly fishing photographers and videographers. I’m sure you’ve seen his amazing work before; here’s a part of his story from his website explaining just a bit of why he does what he […]

I recently was able to watch a presentation by an “Outdoor Team” sponsored by a national magazine and several national gear manufacturers. Let me rephrase there – the presentation was at my place of work so I had to watch it. The talk covered backpacking and was engineered to help encourage and enable people to […]

1.  Get off the Beaten Path.  See a host of cars parked on the side of the road?  Keep driving.  Near an easy-access turnout to a famous view?  Go around.  Sure, there are great shots to be had of famous locations and scenes.  But there are already an infinite number of images with that exact […]

Some of the coolest “old guys” I’ve known have been on the river. They get out, rain or snow, and fish to their heart’s content.  Not a bad way to spend one’s days. This man, however, did not fall into that category. While filming with the Dry Fly Media team at Three Dollar Bridge on […]

It’s snowing like hell here outside of Castle Rock right now.  Here’s to summer days on the river. [A few old friends have been asking if I’m still doing my blog.  Yes, at a new address. ]

One of the most common dilemmas for photographers is how to manage their gear in inclement weather.  Let’s face it, digital cameras and their accoutrement and not necessarily suited for arctic weather (like today here in Colorado; wind chill beyond -30). One of the best things a photographer can do for their gear is to […]

Yesterday we blew through Craig and down the Missouri on the way back to Bozeman from Calgary. Looked for Steve’s boat but didn’t see him; it was pretty smoky along the river and in Craig due to the fire burning over on Holter.  The river looked great anyway.

Couple of pics from around town – yesterday’s afternoon get out and stretch drive….
