I spent a few hours today throwing massive streamers in hopes of moving some fish. Some part of me was hoping to catch a truly large brown trout. This is the season for it. The tail end of fall. Many brown trout are either preparing to spawn or have just finished. I was hoping the mix of hormones and hunger would lead a monster that was hanging out in a back eddy or some other piece of soft water might decide to eat a Kelly Galloup streamer. But even if I didn’t land a fish of the year candidate, I was sure to enjoy some nice weather and a day away from the office.
Turns out I didn’t land a truly huge brown, but I wasn’t disappointed in the fishing. I took a cutthroat, two decent browns, and a nice one that went about 19 inches. That was the good part of the day.
The bad part came as I tried to photograph the biggest fish. I managed to drop my DSLR in the river (d’oh). I’m not sure if it is going to survive the experience. Currently it is buried under a mountain of rice (not sure who thought of that, but I hope it works). As you might expect, I ended cutting the trip short to try and salvage the thing.
Depending on the weather, I might get out one more time before real winter sets in. I hope that trip last longer and ends better.
