Sobering News for the Smith in Montana

Some sobering news for Montana’s Smith River dropped last week when Montana DEQ issued the final permit allowing Tintina to begin the initial phases of development of the long debated Black Butte Copper Project. Dammit.

The news has been widely reported in regional papers, such as this article in the Bozeman Daily Chronicle; there’s not been a formal, public facing reaction out of Montana TU as of early this morning that I’ve been able to find.

The key of course is what’s next? The litigation filed by Montana TU et al in June has yet to receive a hearing date, and will likely grind and bind the mine’s progress for at least a while. More to come.
