In Praise of Western River Towns

The Missoulian recently ran this piece covering the recent embrace of a new river access near Missoula; having been there recently visiting Jess, and watching surfers playing on Brennan’s Wave below, the article reminded me of the magic of some of our favorite Western haunts graced by rivers flowing through their midsts.

Growing up in the parched, near desert like environs of the Texas Panhandle, I’ve been a sucker for any body of water, flowing or not, since a kid.

Decades later, water bodies still attract my attention like a magnet, and like many of you, I can’t help but look for hatches, nervous water, and other tells that water offers if you know what you’re looking for, and imagine how to best fish whatever waters lies before me.

Have a river, crick, or creek flowing through your town? Cherish it, embrace it, clean it.
