Last week a friend sent this article over accompanied by a pithy tongue in cheek comment covering several topics, one of which was focused on the supposition by one political party that members of the other party were NOT supposed to be interested in “science”, or otherwise deemed capable of divining the deeper meanings of whatever “science” was being discussed.
He was right, the NR article was interesting, even more so the referenced article in Geology (from the Geological Society of America) discussing the discovery of two previously undescribed super volcano eruptions along the Yellowstone Hot Spot Track.
You can peruse the Geology article here, note the image above was cut from the article, and indeed the authors hypothesize that the Yellowstone Hotspot is waning.
Ironically now and again we’ll have someone, fresh off reading another super volcano doom porn article or seeing some vid about the upcoming Yellowstone volcanic disaster due any time, ask when we think it’ll be safe to fish YNP again.
For those people, I usually suggest it’s damn risky and you should probably fish Colorado this year. For the rest of us, the Yellowstone caldera hotspot isn’t going to blow anytime soon.
