Though it’s been on the calendar for some time now, the time has come to mention that Montana’s FWP has scheduled this Friday the 12th a meeting of the Fish and Wildlife Commission (here’s the announcement of the zoom meeting), the primary focus of which will be the consideration of the Madison River Recreation Management Environmental Assessment.

They’ve laid out the Commission’s objectives nicely in this agenda item cover sheet; the principle outcomes being (from the document) –

The commission could approve the EA be released for public comment as written, alter the EA prior to release for public comment or, not release the EA for public comment. The department has heard from the outfitting community and from general anglers that they are anxious to review and comment on measures to address recreation management on the Madison River.

We’re putting money on a public release for comment in one form or another, and have already started reaching out to interested parties for further input. Interestingly, the venerable Madison River Foundation has not a word mentioning the upcoming meeting on their site or in recent social media (as of this morning).
