On Friday the Bozeman Daily Chronicle posted an article updating the Black Butte Copper Project mine application process, a process that’s a step closer to approval with the release of the Final EIS for Tintina Montana’s project along the headwaters of Montana’s beloved Smith River. Bottom line – DEQ suggested some relatively minor changes, and appears to otherwise suggest the mine can be constructed and operated safely.

This of course is contrary to industry opinions obtained and expressed by a number of groups, including Montana TU, and you can be damn sure there’s much more discussion coming, particularly given a now open 60-day comment period for water permit changes granted the mining group.
