In this day and age when all things related to the American presidency invoke incredulity and amazement, it should be noted that erudite scholars have invested time and capital compiling lists of the favored beverages of American presidents from George Washington to present day.

The Missoulian has published one such list today, and in fact entire books have been penned covering the topic in remarkable detail, such as the highly respected work pictured to the right.

As big a fan of TR as we are around our camp, somehow I’d overlooked the fact that TR was a mint julep guy.

TR apparently had mint grown in abundance in the White House garden and shared his preferred mint julep recipe with gracious authority –

10 to 12 fresh mint leaves muddled with a splash of water and a sugar cube
2 or 3 oz. of rye whiskey
1/4 oz. of brandy
Sprig or two of fresh mint to garnish

Cheers.
