It’s my pleasure to bring to our Chi Wulff friends another fine, hot off the press book for today’s giveaway.

Sitting on the corner of my desk is a pristine, hardback copy of Quinn Grover’s newly released Wilderness of Hope: Fly Fishing and Public Lands in the American West, published this month by the University of Nebraska Press.

Quinn was kind enough to fire us a couple of copies of his new book, one for our bookshelf and one to give away. Longtime Chi Wulff readers will recognize Quinn from years back; he wrote a few pieces here on Chi Wulff and while we’ve never met face to face, we’ve kept in touch now for nearly a decade.

Quinn is a quintessential Westerner; he lives and works in Idaho (he teaches English at Brigham Young University – Idaho) and has lived, fished, hiked, and camped in the Northern Rockies his entire life.

I’ve particularly enjoyed the book for two reasons, one being that Quinn writes with the quiet, powerful authenticity that comes from spending years on the grand, expansive Western waters and the smaller backwaters that dot the American West but don’t score magazine covers, photo essays in the Drake or Catch, and require an investment of sweat equity to access.

Secondly, Quinn has taken the time, effort, and opportunity to regale the reader with perspectives of the wonderful Western public lands that much of the country simple never sees, never mind actually touches, and clearly doesn’t understand.

He deftly weaves personal anecdotes and adventures with the absolute necessity of connecting with the greater natural world via fly fishing (of course) and embracing the concept of and careful stewardship of public lands along the way.

I predict this will become a much read and appreciated book in the fly fisherman’s library; you’ll want to pick up a copy if you don’t win this one. To enter the drawing fire an email here with Wilderness of Hope in the subject line, and we’ll draw and ship your copy on the 18th of October.

Cheers.
