Attaboy Tuesday: Montana Headwaters Security Act

I was reminded by this Bozeman Daily Chronicle op ed (Montana’s Unique Rivers Deserve Unique Protection) by Montana business owner Brian McGeehan (some of you might remember his insightful comments about the Madison kerfuffle a few months back) about the proposed Montana Headwaters Security Act.

The image above is taken from the Montanan’s for Healthy Rivers site; it’s worth a bit of time today, including perusal of the interactive map they’ve created detailing the rivers that should indeed be better protected. Overall, I’d still argue that Montana does a fair job currently of protecting her waterways, certainly when compared to much of the country and world, duly noting the mining-induced disasters that checker her history, though new threats abound and there are more on the horizon.

The coalition of folks that have signed on to support the movement is extensive and impressive; obviously we need to keep pushing to get this done. You can register your support on the site and there are host of reminders and tips for chatting up your congress critter.

Attaboy.
