Almost three years ago to the day I wrote A Call to Fathers and shared the pic above; that’s our two kids a few years back, “painting” our first drift boat with water-filled buckets just outside my backyard shop (I was babysitting that afternoon…).
For many of your neighbors, the disconnect between their sterilized, tech-dominated daily lives and the restorative, refreshing power of the natural world has never been greater. The studies keep coming detailing how kids are over-protected, tech-distracted, under-exercised, more stressed and unhappy that ever before in history, and less physically fit (read more overweight) than previous generations.
Fathers today need to step up, get kids outside, let them get their hands dirty, and teach them how to appreciate, understand, and hands-on relate with the bounty of the natural world. The investment of time and efforts will pay huge dividends down the road.
It’s time to put down your phone and iPads, get off the computer, turn off the TV, round up the kids, and get outside.
Git ‘er done, and enjoy your Father’s Day.
