Before you laugh and scoff at a the mention of Zebco on a fly fishing blog, hear me out on this one…
There are many a fly fisher out and about these days who as a tyke first cast a spinning rod, and many who (even if they won’t admit it) have spinning or bait casting gear tucked away in the trunk, garage, or gear room and use it now and again.
Spinning gear is very often the gateway to the world of fishing, and Zebco’s #CatchOn campaign to engage new fishers is a great idea, and offers a glimpse of how fun piscatorial pursuits can be.
Camping years ago in Jackson Hole, we could put both our young kids in the drifter parked at the camp site, hand them a 3 foot Zebco kid’s rig with a dummy casting lure attached, and they’d entertaining themselves “fishing” for hours.
Engaging new fishers is vital, and Zebco is stepping up big time. You gals and guys with kids (or grandkids) know that making fishing fun is critical to the mission, and spinning gear is a great way to introduce kids to the game.
Attaboy.
