An interesting piece on catch and release was published Friday in the Missoulian, read it here in its entirety (image from the article). Of particular interest as catch and release fishing, and in particular post-catch fishing handling practices, were used in part of the argument by several conservation groups last year when debating closure of the Idaho steelhead season.

The conclusions presented in the article run a tad contrary to some of what you might hear preached about optimal fish handling practices of late. For the record, we’re still in the ‘keep ’em wet’ camp, and think you should stop holding fish out of the water so fricken’ long to get your over-posed hero shots.

Here’s another recent catch and release study that might surprise you as well.
