Chatting this past week with family and friends in Montana and across the Northern Rockies, one theme has been consistent with everyone to the person mentioning at some point in the discussion that it has been damned cold this past week or so.
It’s even 22 here in North Texas this morning, prompting talk radio hosts on the way out to my early morning walk to clamor for school closures (WTF?) and warning the greater masses about the “deadly” cold.
More or less respecting the ability of cold-intolerant Southerners to thrive in wilting summer heat, I’ll poke no more fun at my current neighbors, though for most of our Chi Wulff friends, cold weather means a few more layers and you still get outside, and get your work and play done.
Cold weather also means it’s soup, stew, and chili season, and as promised for Bert and Lucy and in Kalispell, here’s my top ten (actually 11) favorite recipes we’d eat all winter if stuck in a never-ending polar vortex (which used to be called a cold snap).
Pinto Bean Soup with Bacon and Chipotles
Roasted Green Chile Chicken Soup
Libby’s Cajun Onion Soup with House Croutons
