Back in 2012 I shared this story about our family’s tradition of enjoying a huge batch of pot stickers (gyoza if you prefer) every January 25th on our kids’ (now young adults of course) birthday. Via one of the great ironies in life, they were born on the same day a year apart (it’s a long story, and one that we can laugh about now…).
At the link above we posted what was then in 2012 our go to recipe; it still is today, though we’ve found that forming the pot sticker filling into an oblong patty on a skewer and grilling it (or just sautéing or roasting in the oven sans skewer) and wrapping in lettuce wrap is just as tasty or perhaps even better. Just make sure you have a great dipping sauce or two on hand.
And for those who have adopted a Primal, Paleo, or gluten free approach to life in the kitchen, take a look at Michelle Tam’s Paleo Potstickers over on Nom Nom Paleo; they’re quite good if not a bit of a handful to execute.
It’s birthday pot sticker day!
