Friday Feast 9 November 2017: Throwback to Cajun Chicken Fricassee and Fall Soup Season

Though we’ve been fighting the idea tooth and nail for the past few weeks, we’ve finally acquiesced to the fact that fall has finally arrived in most of the country.

Heck, Jake and a couple of buddies are up on the High Line chasing Elk in The Breaks this week and there’s been three days where temps struggled to climb above freezing. Jess has seen her first Winter Weather advisory and snow in Missoula this week too. And for that matter, we’ll see our first overnight lows in the 30s here in North Texas for the year tonight.

Fall always means it’s time to rotate in our favorite soup, chili, stew, and gumbo recipes; I even tossed a couple Jake’s way as they planned their meals for elk camp this week.

We have our list of favorites we always reach for, and this Cajun Chicken Fricassee seems to come out on top every year (making it tonight in fact, and note the discussion detailing the difference between stew and fricassee), though here are few of others we have to put back on the short list every year…

Lisa’s Trail Ride Chicken and Dumplings

Blanca’s Cream of Green Chile Chicken Soup

Barn Bitch Turkey Chili

Green Chili Chicken Stew

White Bean Chili

The Last Pozole Recipe You’ll Ever Need

Cheers, and enjoy your fall.
