My lovely wife and I happened to be dining at one of our favorite Tex Mex places a few days back, enjoying the fall weather (mid-80s actually) on the patio, when a couple of these Spicy Mules waltzed by on a tray, destined for the table next to us.
The jalapeno (and lime) garnishes were eye-catching, and I couldn’t help but ask about the cocktail…
There are dozens and dozens of mule variants floating around out there, most of which are quite tasty actually, though the herbal heat of a good jalapeno brings a lot to the table here. As always, fresh-squeezed lime juice and good ginger beer are key components of a good mule.
Put this one your list if you’re a fan of spicing things up now and again.
Jalapeno pepper, sliced into thin rings
1 ounce fresh-squeezed lime juice
1/2 ounce of your favorite orange liqueur
2 ounces vodka
4 ounces good ginger beerGarnish: Lime wheel, jalapeno ring
Muddle 2-6 pepper slices with the lime juice and orange liqueur of your choice.
Stir in the vodka, add ice, then top with the ginger beer.
Garnish and go to it.
Cheers.
