Years ago while I was grinding through my residency in SLC, my lovely wife was teaching school (Wasatch Junior High) and as I was buried at the hospital much of the time, she took a part time job at REI (discounts matter and good toys ain’t cheap).

We ended up meeting a flock of damned interesting people back in the day via REI (this was back when their primary mission in life, as envisioned by the founding Whitaker brothers, was actually equipping people to enjoy the outdoors, not political advocacy), including an adventurous gal, let’s just call her L. L was an extraordinary climber, putting up some very difficult routes along the Wasatch with her then world-renowned climber boyfriend, and a very gifted, very crazy extreme skier as well.

L went on to work for Patagonia, moving eventually to their HQ in Venice, where she sampled this cocktail and sent it over for a heads up here…

1 and 1/2 ounce bourbon
3/4 ounce fresh lemon juice
3/4 ounce honey
1 tsp ginger syrup (maybe a touch more)
1 sprig lavender

Garnish: Lavender sprig

Add everything to your trusty shaker and fill with ice, then shake, shake, shake.

Strain into a(n) (Old Fashioned) glass over a single large ice cube.

Slap that remaining lavender sprig and garnish.

Enjoy.
