Just in time for your long weekend, here’s a nifty sounding Key Lime Margarita from new friend of Chi Wulff Leticia in Naples.

She says this is the way they’ve been enjoying margaritas for years in her neck of the woods, and while she and her guide husband (TJ) prefer them without sugar, many of their out of state guests find the sugar balances the puckering tartness of the key limes.

We’re huge fans of the small but mighty tasty Key lime, and will be making up one these Key Lime Pies for a shindig this weekend…

1 key lime, quartered for rimming glasses
Kosher salt for rimming glasses

3/4 cup Cointreau (or your otherwise favorite orange liqueur
1/2 cup good reposado tequila
1/2 fresh squeezed Key lime juice
2 tsp (more or less) granulated sugar (superfine is best)

Rim 4 glasses if margaritas need that in your world.

Into your trusty blender goes the Cointreau, tequila, Key lime juice, and sugar (if using); pulse until well combined. Pour over ice into those masterfully salt-rimmed glasses and go to it.

Enjoy.
