From South Texas Chi Wulff compadre EH comes yet another tasty-looking, grapefruit-based adult beverage – the Vida Paloma.
EH has by report come into a stash of several mezcals brought up to him by a business contact in Mexico; he insists this gives the standard Paloma a real run for its money, with the smokey flavors in the mezcal complementing the citrus and herbal bite of the cilantro.
On the record, we haven’t shaken these together yet, thought they’re on the list.
3 ounces fresh grapefruit juice
2 ounces good Mezcal
1/2 ounce simple syrup
1/4 ounce fresh lime juice
2 ounces cold club sodaGarnish: Grapefruit wheel, cilantro sprig, jalapeno slice
Optional: Rim glass with chile pequin
If using, rim a rocks glass with chile pequin.
Into an ice-filled shaker go the mezcal, grapefruit juice, simple syrup, and lime juice, and shake, shake, shake.
Strain into your glass over fresh ice, top with the club soda, and garnish away.
Enjoy.
