A Moment of Silence Please for the 2018 Yellowstone Opener

Yesterday’s sunrise marked what for many is a most hallowed time of year: the Opening Day of the Fly Fishing Season in Yellowstone.

Work duties and the need to postpose travel awaiting the arrival of our grandchild in Livingston (just a another few weeks – or less) kept us away this year, though looking at weather and flows the Firehole (our traditional YNP opener destination) is a bit off and likely will get pretty dirty if the forecast holds.

It doesn’t matter for those who’ve made the journey, opening day on the Firehole is as much or more a spiritual thing as it is about teasing those first fish to the fly. Don’t forget felt is banned in the Park this year, and you’ll be throwing barbless hooks (as you should be anyway in that neighborhood).

Big Sky Anglers posted a good report for opener here.
