In a tip of the adult beverage hat to Cinco de Mayo coming up on Saturday, EH sent up this Grapefruit Tequila Slammer cocktail from his basecamp down along the Laguna Madre in far South Texas.

EH has long been the champion (among our compadres anyway) of using fresh grapefruit in a variety of adult beverage concoctions and he insists this is yet another winner best made with a fresh Ruby Red out of the Texas Valley.

He also notes that it’s ultimately better using the Jarritos brand lemon lime soda from Mexico if you can get your hands on some (look around, it’s pretty common these days).

4 ounces fresh grapefruit juice
2 ounces good blanco tequila
2 ounces lemon lime soda

Garnish: Grapefruit peel or slice

Add the three liquid ingredients to an ice-filled glass; to mix cover the glass with your hand and give it a solid “slam” against the surface of a wooden cutting board (avoid your granite countertop).

Garnish and go to it.

Cheers.
