With National Margarita Day coming up a week from today (if you try hard enough, you can hear cheering in the background), we’ve had a few damned interesting looking margarita recipes come in lately, including this Margarita Picante.

I’ll admit that digging up a honeydew melon this time of year ain’t easy (a high roller grocery in our neighborhood has some available out of Mexico), though I’m just guessing it’ll be worth the effort to track one down….

4 and 1/2 ounces blanco tequila
3/4 ounce triple sec
7 ounces fresh honeydew juice
3 ounces spiced honeydew syrup
3 ounces fresh lime juice

Garnish: Cayenne pepper

Spiced Honeydew Syrup
1 cup diced honeydew
1 cup sugar
1 cup water
Ground cayenne pepper to taste

Add all the ingredients to your trusty blender along with 3 cups of ice; blend well.

Pour into a chilled (rocks) glass, dust with cayenne pepper, and go to it.

For the syrup: Muddle the honeydew melon, sugar, and water in a medium saucepan and then stir over medium heat for 3-4 minutes until the sugar has fully dissolved. Remove from the heat, cool, strain, and add cayenne pepper to taste.

Cheers.
