This past week I happened to mention in an email conversation with Chef Libby in Austin that we’ve been finding amazing prices on fresh blackberries lately (try a buck for a pint container), though it appears our run of good blackberry fortune is about to dwindle out.
Libby shared a few things they’d been doing in her catering biz with the bounty of blackberries, including this nifty cocktail recipe for Tequila Blackberry Punch; she noted they’d somehow ended up with a fair amount of “extra” Cazadores blanco tequila, which she appears to favor in citrus leaning tequila cocktails given its citrus and fresh agave flavors, slightly sweet finish, and price (though it’s not a sipper).
Time to go round up a few more blackberries before they’re gone for winter…
4 fresh blackberries, plus more for garnish
0.75 ounce blackberry or raspberry liqueur
0.5 ounce agave nectar
1.5 ounces good blanco tequila
0.75 ounce fresh-squeezed lime juiceGarnish: blackberries, orange peel
Grab your trusty shaker and muddle the blackberries, your choice of berry liqueur, and the agave nectar.
Now add the tequila and lime juice, fill with ice, and shake, shake, shake.
Strain into your glass of choice, garnish, and go to it.
Cheers.
