From Jim K. somewhere in a Portland (OR) suburb –
My neighbor travels back and forth from Poland monthly on business and brought us back a bottle of Zubrowka vodka, also know as Bison Grass vodka, the herbal , rye-based spirit that draws its name in part from including a tincture of bison grass in the mix (which also imparts an almost sorta cloudy, yellowish tint).
My culinary school-trained wife thinks there’s a hints of vanilla, coconut, and something nutty (maybe almonds) in the flavor too; I just think it’s mighty tasty combined with the freshest unfiltered apple juice you can find.
Neighbor Jack insists that Szarlotka means Polish apple pie, but don’t hold me to that…
As nobody in our circle of compadres is fluent in Polish, we’ll take Jack’s word for it as well (for now); our fresh apple juice won’t be as good as yours over there on the coast, but we’re on the hunt.
1 and 1/2 ounces Zubrowka vodka (aka Bison Grass vodka)
Unfiltered apple juice
Pour the vodka over ice into your (highball) glass; add the unfiltered apple juice to taste.
Jim didn’t mentioned it, but I’d sure garnish with a fresh apple slice if one was handy.
Cheers.
