This one has been sitting in the queue so long I’m not even sure who suggested this riff on the Tequila Sunrise, but today’s Mezcal Sunset, featuring the smokey, sorta funky tang of mezcal and a bright pomegranate syrup (as opposed to store bought grenadine) just might make your week (guess that depends on how things have been going out there…).
No distracting side story today, no fluff, no banter. Just the nuts and bolts to make your weekend a little nicer for those among us who enjoy a tasty adult beverage now and again.
1 ounce mezcal
1 ounce sparkling dry white wine
2 ounces fresh-squeezed orange juice
1 tbsp pomegranate syrupPomegranate Syrup
1/2 cup pomegranate juice
1/2 cup sugar
Pour into an ice-filled (rocks) glass the mezcal, wine, then the orange juice.
Top with 1 tbsp of the Pomegranate syrup and go to it.
[For the Pomegranate syrup, simmer the sugar and juice together for 5 or so minutes until the sugar has fully dissolved and the liquid is slightly reduced. Let cool, then refrigerate, will hold for a week or so in a sealed container.]
Enjoy.
