The great (and continually under-appreciated) state of New Mexico has just release a license plate honoring their beautiful Rio Grande cutty. The artwork has a nifty history, commissioned in 1964 from artist Don Radovich and used to embellish the trout stamp anglers would purchase as part of their license package.
The Rio Grande cutty was designated as the state fish in 1995 and is always on the lists of cutthroat loving, catch and release fly anglers in the know.
Here’s an article from the Santa Fe New Mexican with more details on the plate program and a chance to vote in a poll comparing the Cutty plate to their iconic chile plate (the chile plate is ahead in polling btw…).
