We’re on the road this week (Ennis and the Upper Madison yesterday, West Yellowstone and the Firehole today) and stopped in a local shop to see an old friend after a big lunch yesterday.
He was battling what sounded like a pretty crappy fall flu, though insisted the cocktail he was sipping out of his well camouflaged YETI tumbler – The Gold Rush – was making him feel “better than I’ve been in days”.
Purported medicinal benefits aside (lemons are indeed packed with vitamin C and lots of antioxidants), he was right – these are delightful and really shine with fresh lemon and good honey.
And a potentially useful side note – our honey was cold from sitting in the kitchen box in the car overnight; 15 seconds in the microwave softened it up and made it dissolve with ease when shaking this together.
2 ounces bourbon
3/4 ounce fresh lemon juice
3/4 ounce good honey
Combine everything in your trusty shaker, fill with ice, and shake, shake, shake. (Honey takes a while to dissolve in the cold, so make it at least a 20 second shake.)
Strain into a (old-fashioned or rocks) glass with one big-assed cube of ice.
Enjoy.
