Here’s a somewhat different spin on a whiskey-based cocktail from Jimmy D. in Waycross, GA. –

Defeating the heresy that Southerners only drink good bourbon, here’s one for your Thirsty Thursday that offers a very nice melon and citrus flavor profile, The Irish Maid.

Like all good things drinkable and edible, this one is at it’s best when made with the best ingredients, like a cucumber picked right out of your garden, muddled immediately, and lemon juice you just squeezed right then.

I neither fish nor drink with any genuine, true-blooded Irishmen, therefore I can’t speak to its ‘Irish Authenticity’, but the Irish whiskey works very very well here…

Authenticity be damned, looks worthy of a try to us.

2 1/4-inch slices fresh cucumber
2 ounces Irish whiskey
3/4 ounce fresh lemon juice
3/4 ounce simple syrup
1/2 ounce St. Germain liqueur

Garnish: Cucumber slice

Muddle the cucumber slices in your trusty shaker.

Pour in the remaining ingredients and fill with ice, then shake, shake, shake.

Strain into an ice-filled (rocks) glass and garnish with another cucumber slice.

Enjoy.
