From South Texas / Padre Island compadre EH this week –
…here’s one to put on your tequila short list for the summer – a new spin on the Tequila Mockingbird. A buddy of ours pulled this off the Liquor.com site back in the late spring when the first watermelons were coming up out of Mexico.
I’ve never been a big fan of the combination of creme de menthe and good tequila (the original version of this cocktail), though fresh watermelon and tequila are always good together, and the herbal basil and the jalapeno spice are a perfect contrast here.
This one is way too easy to not try soon…
Watermelons are popping up all over the place here, so it’s on the list for today. Cheers to EH down on the Laguna.
1 Jalapeno pepper slice
2 ounces good silver tequila (Patron in original)
1.5 ounces watermelon basil puree
0.75 ounce fresh squeezed lime juice
0.75 ounce agave or simple syrupWatermelon Basil Puree
2 generous cups chopped seedless watermelon
6-7 washed basil leaves
Muddle the jalapeno slice in your trusty shaker.
Add the remaining ingredients, fill with ice, and shake, shake, shake.
Strain into an ice-filled (rocks) glass and go to it.
Enjoy.
