From long-time compadre Steve S. in Salt Lake City –

…Here’s another one for you guys now that summer has officially arrived: the Palomita. My wife’s bestie grew up in Houston and served these at a dinner the other night, she’d even tracked down the genuine Jarritos soda (not the easiest thing to do in relatively monochromatic Utah) and used some beautiful organic limes too.

Bright, incredibly refreshing and not overpowered by the vodka – damn, these are good.

I can see these being shaken up in camp this summer…

Thanks Stevie, and if you look hard enough, you’ll probably see some being shaken up this weekend too. Cheers.

2 ounces Vodka
1/2 ounce fresh squeezed lime juice
Jarritos grapefruit soda

Garnish: Lemon peel; rim salt (the original uses vanilla-flecked salt)

Rim a (Collins) glass with the salt of your choice.

Into an ice-filled shaker pour the vodka and fresh lime juice; shake, shake, shake.

Strain into the rimmed-glass over fresh ice and top with the grapefruit soda.

Garnish and go to it.

Enjoy.
