The fat lady hasn’t yet sung the closing numbers on Montana’s and the Northern Rocky’s snowpack building season, though the days of laying in snowpack are clearly numbered.

As of yesterday’s reporting, Montana basin Snow Water Equivalent (SWE) was looking better than decent for this time of year –

Taking a step back and looking at the Northern Rockies as a whole, the numbers look even more impressive by basin, with Southern Idaho and Wyoming finally scoring their best late building-season snowpacks in a while –

Water Year (resets 1 October) by Montana basin is impressive as well, though early fall rains last year didn’t all get stored as snow…

Of course there are still a flood of variables (no pun intended) to yet determine how quickly the snowpack comes out and what water is yet to be stored with late spring storms, but there’s plenty of reason to smile about these numbers in mid-April.

Keep that snow dance going for a few weeks longer.

Follow the numbers yourself right here.
