From Jason K. in Ennis this past week –

I’m a long time Montana fishing guide who gets by in the winter tending bar; I’ve got a few seasons of both under my belt (more than just a few in fact) and have found patrons asking more and more for some of the venerable classic cocktails.

I’ve spent part of the past winter season researching some of the old classics; you guys have highlighted a few over the years, though there are dozens you’ve not covered and probably should.

This Rusty Nail is one those I actually hadn’t poured until digging it up this year after a couple down from Calgary asked me for a round back in December; it’s been around since the 30‘s and apparently enjoying a revival of late. It’s a good way to use up some of that blended scotch you bought for something else and haven’t been quite sure what to do with (folks that turn their noses up at all blends are missing out).

Personally I’d advise starting with just a half ounce of Drambuie until you dial in the right proportions for your palate.

Cheers.

Cheers it is, JK.

2 ounces blended scotch whisky
1/2 to 1 ounce Drambuie liqueur (start with 1/2)

Garnish: Lemon twist

Combine in a (rocks) glass; add 1 big-assed ice cube and stir gently.

Garnish with the lemon twist and go to it.

Enjoy.
