Another winner this week – The Elvis – from friend EH down in the Rio Grande Valley, featuring once again fresh grapefruit juice from the bountiful crop this year.
He’s been boasting of late about their (relatively) tropical weather compared to much of the country; most of this week the highs have been in the mid- to high-80’s, though it’s been a bit too windy to get much serious fishing done on the flats.
When asked why this one was called “The Elvis”, EH simply said to try one, and we’d get it.
We’re picking up a sack of grapefruit this weekend to give them a spin; might have to try one of these while we’re at it.
Cheers.
3 ounces fresh Texas Red grapefruit juice
1 and 1/2 ounces dry gin
1/4 ounces elderflower liqueur (St-Germain)
India Pale AleGarnish: Grapefruit twist
Combine the grapefruit juice, gin and liqueur in an ice-filled shaker and shake, shake, shake; you want the outside of the shaker frosty.
Strain into an ice-filled rocks glass and top with the Pale Ale.
Garnish with that fresh grapefruit twist and go to it.
Enjoy.
