We hadn’t heard from long time compadre EH (Laguna Madre fly fisher from Harlingen and South Padre) in a while, though we finally pestered him to see when he’s headed up this way so as to run a bushel or two of grapefruit up to share with friends.

Turns out he’s just a few weeks back from a real estate meeting in Boston (Cambridge to be precise) and proffered this little gem –

…One of our nights out we hit a little out of the way place for an after dinner drink and one of our group came back with a round of these.

We were all fascinated by the large, single ice-cube of frozen strong coffee, and this combination of flavors was astoundingly good, particularly as the coffee cube slowly melted out. It’s called The Lynx; I have no notion of the origin of the name but I think you’ll want to share this one given your penchant for good coffee.

The cube ice molds are easy to find and we’ve been enjoying these at home after a quick trip to pick up the Amaro Meletti and the bitters.

Cheers.

We see all sorts of potential for the big-assed frozen cubes of strong coffee. Cheers indeed.

1 ounce cognac
3/4 ounce full fat, heavy cream
1/2 ounce Amaro Meletti
1/4 ounce simple syrup
2 dashes Bittermens Xocolatl Mole bitters
1 Big-assed frozen cube of strong coffee

Combine everything but the frozen coffee cube in your trusty shaker with ice and shake, shake, shake.

Strain into a rocks glass containing the big-assed frozen cube of coffee.

Enjoy.
