A fishing friend (part-time guide and writer among other things, for the record) from Virginia and I were chatting via email this past week and he chastised me, in the kind manner of a true Southern gentleman, for not featuring enough cocktails featuring bourbon here on Chi Wulff.
He noted in one exchange at that very moment he was sipping a Bourbon Sour, made with his (and our) favorite ‘everyday’ bourbon – Bulleit – and that it was a prime example of what he was talking about.
As with most things related to fly fishing, food, and adult beverages, we only need to be hit over the head once to get our attention.
“Nuff said.
1.5 ounces good bourbon
.75 ounces simple syrup
.75 ounces fresh lemon juiceGarnish: Cherry and a lemon wedge
Combine the bourbon, simple syrup and lemon juice in an ice-filled shaker; shake, shake, shake.
Strain into an ice-filled rocks glass and garnish with that cherry and lemon wedge.
Enjoy.
