Now this should be interesting…
NW Energy will be hosting two public meetings this week regarding the ongoing rehabilitation / refitting of Hebgen Dam after its catastrophic failure way back on 31 August 2008.
Those of you who love the Madison know that the project has drug on for nigh on forever, with years of altered flows and significant stress to the watershed, particularly during the summer seasons.
Folks have been clamoring for months that the relining of the dam’s outlet pipe, scheduled now for the summer of 2017, will once again stress the Madison as flows will need be pulled from the surface of the lake / top of the dam during the repairs.
There’s been scores of articles and posts written about this – and there will be many more – though some of the best comes from the hand (computer) of John Juracek writing for Blue Ribbon Flies (read this post for powerful commentary on the current issues) and Joe Moore of Big Sky Anglers (here’s one of Joe’s latest posts on the matter).
This week’s meetings are scheduled as follows:
Wednesday, 29 June, 2016: Ennis Fire Station at 7 PM
Thursday, 30 June, 2016: Bozeman Hilton Garden Inn at 7 PM
It’s way past time to hold NWE’s proverbial feet to the fire to get this work done during a window that will induce much less stress on the river system.
Get out there and raise a little hell this week.
