YNPOPenerOne of the most special days in the fly fishing year is once again upon us – the Saturday of Memorial Day Weekend fly fishing opener in Yellowstone.

The hallowed waters of Yellowstone flowing through Wyoming, Montana and Idaho aren’t necessarily the easiest fly fishing nut to crack (a good thing), though there are treasures to be found once you get away from the roadways and crowds and catch a glimpse of the Yellowstone that TR saw and loved long ago (a great thing).

There are a hoard of great fly shops surrounding The Park who will soon be posting updated reports of what’s shaking in terms of specific hatches and conditions. Pick your favorite(s), spend some cash to support the guys and gals working hard behind the counter(s), and soak up the (for the most part) insightful recommendations.

Flows from the Wyoming USGS site are on the skinny side this morning (image below), though that of course will change as the weather cycles this late spring into summer.

Yellowstone’s (fly) fishing page. Remember – No barbs, No bait, No lead in The Park.

Hot Damn.
