Another good one this week from new Chi Wulff compadre Raul in Albuquerque – a simple recipe for a pitcher of Sangrita – a danged tempting marriage of Sangria and the long-time favorite Margarita.
“…I don’t know where my wife and I found first discovered this; she thinks it was a Ninfa’s when we were both in school in Houston. We like this one because it’s damned tasty, is a cinch to stir up, is perfect for a crowd and doesn’t break the bank putting it together.
We even use a cheap but surprisingly good bottle of a sweet red like Barefoot’s sweet red blend (or their red moscato, rosa red blend or the summer red spritzer) though any will do. It’s much better with fresh orange and lime juice as you’d imagine, and it’s cool and refreshing so get the stuff to make more than one batch.
We’ve taken big jugs of this fishing in every state in the Rockies over the past few summers and have made more than one guide happy on a hot, windy afternoon…
We just savored a paper cup full of Sangrita at a neighbor’s yard party this last weekend; there’ll be a pitcher in our fridge by nightfall today.
1 bottle sweet red wine
1/2 cup fresh squeezed orange juice
1/2 cup fresh squeezed lime juice
1/2 cup silver tequila
1/2 cup orange liqueur
1/4 cup simple syrupGarnish: Lime and orange wheels or slices
Combine all ingredients in a large pitcher, stir well; let rest in the fridge for at least 2 hours before serving.
Serve in a glass over ice and garnish with the lime and orange slices or wheels.
Enjoy.
